RISK PROJECT OVERVIEW
RISK will take 30 at-risk youth girls on a journey of a lifetime. We will chronicle their lives and explore their journey of inspiration, hope, and discovery as they go through our 4-week filmmaking program. Our expert team has designed a curriculum to offer each of the girls an opportunity to discover her own voice through making movies.
This documentary presents the intense, real-life experience of a group of high risk and at- risk youth girls who take on the challenge of learning how to make a movie. We share in their private lives as they train for and compete in a community film competition. Within their stories, we see their triumphs and how they are often overshadowed with their heartbreaking family dynamics. Through the completed films, we also see the story of America itself.
This project was inspired from the real-life experience of this project’s director, Tara Veneruso:
“Many years ago, I was an at-risk youth, and was spiraling downwards with drugs, self-destructive behavior and the next planned stop - jail. A vice-principal at my school saw the dangerous direction I was headed and stepped in to change my life by ‘hiring me’ to make a documentary for our school. I want to give back to the spark that gave me my life – a successful directing career in the film industry.”
Our production team will initially create a feature documentary film in Kansas City & St. Joseph, Missouri.
